I’ve had days off, but not during the work week lately. After a few boring days due to the heat I made a vow to myself to get out of the house and do things that I wanted to do.
I woke up naturally around 8:30 and had my usual overnight oats while sipping some cold brew coffee that I made over the weekend. I basically soak coffee grounds for at least 24 hours. This batch is not the best, but it’s cold for these terribly hot days. I have trouble keeping coffee fresh since I only make it at home on weekends.
Before getting to my workout I rotated my mattress and changed my sheets, two things that will help me sleep better at night. My workout kicked my butt, but I’m seriously loving the flow of this program. I can do two workouts back to back in about 40-60 minutes and it allows me a few days each week to run or do a workout with friends. The general plan of the workout is 100 days straight with a design to allow you to do two in one day if you miss one. I’m all about fitting workouts around my everyday life.
My first adventure of the day was taking myself to lunch. Since it was hot and I walked to Assembly Row, I wanted something cold so I opted for a salad. I went with the kale salad with shaved fennel, roasted vegetables, goat cheese, grapes, and shaved chicken. I’m not sure what the dressing was but it was creamy and tasted good so I used some of it and it also came with a pita. The restaurant was a Greek spot where a lot of people came to grab lunch to go. I sat at the bar and ate my lunch, but should have relaxed a bit more. On a day when I wanted a salad this wasn’t the best. I always think a kale salad will be massaged, but this was straight up raw kale. And it was prepackaged which I didn’t know until I saw them just add the chicken to the container. just a reminder that salads are not always the healthiest option on the menu, be aware of the toppings and especially the dressing!
After lunch I went to see The Lion King. I opted out of IMAX and saw it in Dolby format, but I honestly don’t know the difference. The movie was amazing, though. I still love Mufasa and was so sad when he died and absolutely loved Timone and Pumba. Pumba’s best line was when he said “I may run from hyenas but I always fight a bully” and charged a hyena that called him chubby. That duo is just so funny and I honestly forgot about their role in the movie because it’s been so long. I felt an emotional attachment to the pride land, the animals, and the African vibes after my recent trip there.
It was 2:40 when the movie ended so I went to American Fresh Brewhouse for a flight of beer to enjoy while reading my book. This time I was more relaxed (compared to lunch) and enjoyed some time to myself. I still find it hard to just sit and be when I’m by myself, but I’m actively working on it. It helped that the bartender was very nice.
I walked home with a slight buzz, getting back around 4:00 pm and immediately fell asleep. Maybe it was the heat or the beers, but I zonked out. I woke up to eat some leftovers from my Hello Fresh meal and watch an episode of the Handmaid’s Tale before going back to bed. This show is SO addicting.
It’s hard being alone, physically and emotionally. Dating is so so so hard and I’m frustrated with the impersonal online game. While emotional loneliness is hard, physical loneliness can be straight up isolating. It’s important to get out of the house and out of your routine even if it means a few extra calories or a few extra dollars. Trust me, I feel like a new person after this day to myself. I did everything alone but I was around a lot of people. As I think Pumba said today, “you do you.”
